Bourg native Dustin Boquet is gearing up for a thrilling opportunity this weekend at the Hondo Rodeo Fest, taking place from April 10 to 12 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Boquet, a four-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, is one of the select riders invited to compete in this prestigious event.

A Special Invitation

The Hondo Rodeo Fest is an invitation-only event, and Boquet is excited to represent Terrebonne Parish in the competition. While Jace Trosclair from Chauvin was also selected to participate, he unfortunately sustained an injury. Boquet will compete against 11 other riders from across the country.

The Challenge and the Prize

Boquet will face off in three rounds of competition, where he will ride bulls weighing between 1,300 to 2,000 pounds. Each round gives the rider eight seconds to impress the judges, who will assign points for the performance. There are four judges, each awarding up to 25 points for the man and bull duo’s performance.

The winner of each round will earn $12,000, and at the end of the competition, the rider with the most accumulated points will be awarded an additional $20,000.

A True Test of Skill

For Boquet, this event is more than just a competition; it’s an opportunity to showcase his passion for the sport. “If it was easy, a lot more people would do it,” he said. “I just love it.” The rodeo also features other events, including musical performances, adding extra excitement to the weekend.

With $50,000 on the line, Boquet is ready to give it his all in what promises to be a thrilling competition at the Caesars Superdome.
