Allegations of Abuse
In an interview with Fox News on April 8, Karli Aylesworth stated that her mother had been abused by Brian in the past. She alleged, “There’s history of him choking her out and threatening to throw her overboard. The fact that this is actually happening makes me believe there’s more to the story.”
Brian Hooker categorically denied these allegations, saying in an email to The Daily Beast, “I am acting on her strict advice not to provide further comment to the press, as there is currently an ongoing investigation.” His attorney, Terrel Butler, also refrained from commenting, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation and the need for all facts to be established before speaking publicly.
Missing Woman’s Disappearance
The incident began on April 4, when Lynette Hooker reportedly went missing while on a nighttime boat ride with Brian from Hope Town to Elbow Cay in the Bahamas.
According to a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Brian told authorities that Lynette went overboard with the boat keys and was swept away by strong currents. The boat’s engine stopped because the keys were lost, and Brian allegedly paddled to shore to report her missing.
The Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association, alongside the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and U.S. Coast Guard, joined the search.
As of April 7, authorities stated that no foul play was suspected, and the investigation had shifted to recovery due to the difficult conditions in the area. Richard Cook, a spokesperson for Hope Town Volunteer Fire & Rescue, described the conditions as “pitch dark” with rough seas, attributing the incident to “bad decisions” rather than criminal activity.
Daughter’s Questions and Concerns
Karli Aylesworth expressed disbelief over the details of the story. She questioned why her fit and strong mother, who was an experienced swimmer, would have been swimming away from the boat and why she would have had the keys in the first place. Karli pointed out that her mother never drove the boat, and it was always Brian who did.
“It just doesn’t add up,” Karli said, emphasizing her doubts about the circumstances surrounding her mother’s disappearance.
Brian Hooker’s Statements
Brian Hooker spoke out on April 8 in a Facebook post, where he expressed his heartbreak over the incident, calling it a tragic boat accident in “unpredictable seas and high winds”. He described the efforts to save his wife, stating, “Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart. We continue to search for her, and that is my sole focus.”
Brian also reportedly left Karli a voicemail in which he claimed that authorities had found a flotation device he threw to Lynette when she fell overboard. The voicemail was published by CBS News, where he reiterated his desperate attempts to help.
