Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department battled a fast-moving brush fire in the Acton area of the Antelope Valley on Friday, as flames spread across rugged terrain.
Fire Grows Quickly After Ignition
The blaze, named the “Crown Fire,” was first reported just after 11:20 a.m. near North Crown Valley Road and Soledad Canyon Road.
By the time crews arrived, the fire had already burned about 80 acres and was upgraded to a second-alarm response due to its rapid spread. Officials initially warned it could grow to 300 acres, later revising that estimate to as much as 600 acres.
Progress Made Overnight
By 10 p.m., firefighters reported the fire had reached approximately 345 acres and was 26% contained. Crews also confirmed that forward progress of the flames had been stopped.
Despite that progress, steep terrain and weather conditions continued to make firefighting efforts more difficult, prompting requests for additional air and ground resources.
Evacuations and Safety Measures
Authorities issued evacuation orders and warnings as a precaution while the fire threatened nearby areas.
One evacuation order was later downgraded to a warning, and several other warnings were lifted as conditions improved. Officials have not specified how many residents were affected.
Investigation Underway
No injuries have been reported, and crews continue working to fully contain the fire.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
