A shoplifting investigation in Louisiana quickly turned into a major criminal case after detectives uncovered stolen firearms, illegal drugs, and other stolen property during a search of a Denham Springs home. Authorities say the investigation began with a retail theft complaint but ultimately led to the arrest of three people and the seizure of multiple weapons and narcotics.
Shoplifting Investigation Leads to Major Arrests in Denham Springs
Detectives with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after receiving a shoplifting complaint from the Academy Sports and Outdoors store at Juban Crossing in Denham Springs, Louisiana.
The investigation focused on 42-year-old Andrew Jenkins, who was suspected of involvement in the retail theft.
As detectives gathered more information, they traced Jenkins to a residence located on Aberdeen Acres in Denham Springs.
Suspect Found Hiding in Shed
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home connected to Jenkins.
When deputies arrived to carry out the search, they discovered that Jenkins had attempted to hide from officers.
According to authorities, he was found hiding inside a shed on the property.
Deputies took him into custody as the search of the residence continued.
Stolen Firearms Discovered
During the search, detectives uncovered several firearms inside the home.
Law enforcement officials reported that nine firearms were recovered from the property.
Among them were four guns that had been reported stolen during a residential burglary in Denham Springs back in 2007.
The discovery raised additional concerns about illegal weapons possession.
Drugs and Narcotics Seized
Along with the firearms, investigators also seized a large amount of suspected narcotics and drug-related items.
Authorities reported finding:
- Methamphetamine
- Suspected fentanyl
- Marijuana
- Psilocybin mushrooms
- Anabolic steroids
- THC vape cartridges
Detectives also discovered packaging materials and digital scales, which are often associated with drug distribution.
Stolen Merchandise Recovered
Investigators also recovered items that were reportedly stolen from the Academy Sports store.
The recovered merchandise included:
- A North Face jacket
- A Streamlight Pro-Tac flashlight
These items helped connect the residence to the original shoplifting investigation.
Three Suspects Arrested
Following the search and investigation, deputies arrested three individuals.
Those taken into custody include:
- Andrew Jenkins, 42
- Dustin Savignol, 42
- Taylor Sharkey, 33
All three were booked into custody on various charges related to drugs, firearms, and theft.
Charges and Bonds
Authorities say the suspects face several serious charges.
Andrew Jenkins faces charges including theft, drug possession, and possession of stolen firearms. His bond has been set at $1.1 million.
Dustin Savignol is charged with drug possession and possession of a stolen firearm. His bond is set at $150,000.
Taylor Sharkey faces charges related to drug possession and illegal firearm possession. Her bond has been set at $1.08 million.
Investigation Highlights Broader Criminal Activity
Officials say the case highlights how routine investigations can uncover larger criminal operations.
What began as a simple shoplifting complaint ultimately led detectives to stolen weapons, illegal narcotics, and multiple arrests.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains ongoing.
