A former mayoral candidate in Donaldsonville has pleaded guilty to charges related to the illegal possession and sale of stolen copper, marking the latest chapter in a series of legal troubles for the 69-year-old man.
Donaldsonville Man Pleads Guilty To Stealing And Selling Stolen Copper
Glenn Price, who ran for mayor of Donaldsonville in 2023, appeared in court on Friday and pleaded guilty to two charges in connection with his involvement in the theft and sale of over 30,000 pounds of copper.
According to court documents, between May 1, 2024, and October 10, 2024, Price received approximately 31,348 pounds of burned copper from two men, Theodore Myers and Kyle Melancon. The stolen copper, which was valued at more than $100,000, was then sold by Price to a local recycling facility under the business name Green Kingdom, LLC.
Authorities say Price profited more than $25,000 from these illegal transactions. The copper had been stolen, and Price’s actions in selling it to the recycling facility ultimately led to criminal charges against him.
Price Allegedly Tampered With Evidence
In addition to the theft and illegal sale of copper, Price was also accused of tampering with evidence in an attempt to cover up his involvement. On October 11, 2024, just a day after his arrest, deputies said Price instructed someone to remove a cell phone from his bedroom and deliver it to his brother. Authorities allege this was an attempt to hide evidence that could have implicated him further.
Price was arrested that same day on charges including illegal possession of stolen property and operating a scrap metal business without the proper license.
Court Outcome and Sentencing
After pleading guilty to charges of illegal possession of stolen things valued at $25,000 or more and obstruction of justice, Price was sentenced to five years of probation, with four years to be served under supervision. His sentence also included a $1,000 fine for both charges.
In addition to these charges, Price was previously arrested for money laundering, further complicating his legal situation.
A Troubling Legal History
Glenn Price’s legal troubles reflect a deeper pattern of alleged criminal behavior. As a former mayoral candidate, his arrest and conviction have drawn attention, as they undermine his reputation in the community. Despite his conviction, Price will avoid jail time but will be closely monitored during his probation period.
This case raises important questions about the need for proper oversight in the recycling industry, particularly with regard to scrap metal businesses and the handling of stolen materials.
