A Texas man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after admitting to killing a nightclub manager with his vehicle during a violent incident outside a Houston entertainment venue.
Prosecutors said the tragedy unfolded after the man became involved in an argument with his wife while celebrating her birthday, leading to a chain of events that ended in the death of a woman who was trying to help.
The case has drawn attention across Houston because of the shocking circumstances surrounding the fatal crash and the devastating impact it had on the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues.
Texas Man Sentenced for Deadly Vehicle Attack
Sanden James George, 37, pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the death of 41-year-old Cindy Reyes. Following his guilty plea, a judge sentenced him to 45 years in prison.
The incident occurred on August 18, 2024, in downtown Houston. According to court documents, George and his wife had gone out to celebrate her birthday when the evening took a tragic turn.
Authorities said alcohol played a significant role in the events leading up to the fatal crash.
Birthday Celebration Ended in Violence
Investigators said George consumed a bottle of Hennessy before arriving at Playground, a popular bar and nightclub in Houston’s Midtown district. While at the venue, he reportedly continued drinking and consumed several additional alcoholic beverages.
At some point during the evening, George and his wife became involved in an argument.
According to police, the disagreement escalated, prompting George’s wife to leave the club. George allegedly followed her outside, where the situation quickly became violent.
Witnesses reported seeing him physically assaulting his wife near the venue.
Nightclub Employees Stepped In to Help
Several employees from a nearby nightclub witnessed the assault and decided to intervene.
Among them was Cindy Reyes, a manager at Barbarella’s nightclub. Reyes and three co-workers attempted to stop the attack and protect George’s wife from further harm.
According to investigators, the employees managed to restrain George for a short period. However, he eventually broke free and ran toward his vehicle.

Driver Allegedly Targeted Wife With Vehicle
After getting into his car, George allegedly accelerated toward the area where his wife was standing.
Authorities said he nearly struck several bystanders before making a U-turn and driving back toward his intended target.
Investigators believe George was attempting to hit his wife with the vehicle. Fortunately, she was able to move out of the way and take cover between parked cars.
However, Cindy Reyes was unable to escape the path of the speeding vehicle.
George’s car struck Reyes with tremendous force, throwing her across the street.
