More than five years after her sister disappeared, Alex Angers continues to live with unanswered questions, memories, and the hope that someone knows what happened to Skye Angers.
Disappearance of Skye Angers
Skye Angers was 30 years old and seven months pregnant when she vanished in January 2021. She had plans to attend a family dinner in Lafayette but never arrived. Her family immediately began searching for answers, but over time, the search has been overshadowed by rumors, false leads, and speculation.
Skye’s mother, Traci Angers, reported her missing to the Lafayette Police Department on January 9, 2021. Investigators noted that her phone activity, bank transactions, and communications abruptly stopped around the time she disappeared.
Memories of Skye
Skye grew up in the Lafayette area and loved live music, roller skating, and drawing. Alex remembers attending the Festival International de Louisiane with her sister, where Skye taught her to enjoy live performances and celebrate life.
The last time Alex saw Skye was in early 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. Alex had finished jury duty at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse when she unexpectedly saw her sister outside. They hugged and spoke for a while, sharing one of their deepest conversations. That moment now remains the last time Alex ever saw her sister.
The Search and Investigation
Investigators continue searching for Skye’s remains. One of the hardest aspects for Alex has been living without closure, without a place to grieve properly.
The criminal portion of the case is listed as “cleared by arrest.” Joseph Bryant was arrested on February 26, 2021, on one count of obstruction of justice connected to Skye’s disappearance, but her remains have never been recovered.
The most recent search occurred in March 2022, after investigators received a potential lead about her location. Detectives and cadaver dogs searched an abandoned area in Lafayette, but the search yielded no results.
Life Without Answers
Alex says her sister would not have just disappeared on her own and believes the absence of answers has caused ongoing fear and grief for her family. Despite Skye’s struggles with substance abuse during parts of her adulthood, her family remembers her for her personality, creativity, and love for life.
Skye’s story is about more than her disappearance. She was a daughter, a sister, and a friend, and her humanity is why Alex continues to speak about her.
Hope for Closure
Alex and her family hope renewed attention to the case will bring answers, new information, or at least some closure. They want people to remember that Skye mattered and that every person deserves to come home, regardless of life’s struggles.
