Florida Man Arrested After Death of 5-Week-Old Baby Girl
Police in Florida have arrested 27-year-old Dajuan Patrick in connection with the death of his 5-week-old daughter, Dahlia Siebenhaar. The arrest took place in Jacksonville after a warrant was issued from Volusia County.
Authorities from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the baby died in December 2024 after suffering severe injuries. After months of investigation, officials believe the injuries were caused by the child’s father.
Patrick is currently being held without bond and is expected to face a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child.
Baby Dahlia Was Found Unresponsive
According to investigators, Dahlia was taken to the hospital on December 2, 2024, after she was found unresponsive.
Doctors quickly realized the baby had suffered serious trauma. Because of the severity of her condition, she was placed on life support. Sadly, she never regained consciousness.
After several days, doctors and family members made the difficult decision to remove life support. Dahlia passed away on December 12, 2024.
Medical Report Revealed Severe Injuries
Medical records and the autopsy revealed that the newborn had suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Doctors found:
- Extensive head trauma
- Broken ribs
- Bruising across her body
- Retinal hemorrhages (bleeding in the eyes)
Experts say retinal hemorrhages and head trauma can often be signs of violent shaking in infants.
Investigators believe the injuries were caused by extreme force while handling the baby.
Witness Statements Helped Police Investigation
During the investigation, detectives spoke with several people who were familiar with the baby’s living situation.
According to police, some witnesses reported that Patrick had been seen shaking and spanking the newborn. Based on these statements, along with the medical findings, investigators concluded that Patrick was responsible for the fatal injuries.
This information led authorities to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Sheriff Speaks About the Tragic Case
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood shared a statement after the arrest.
He said the arrest will not bring Dahlia back or give her the childhood she deserved. However, he added that authorities are speaking up for her because her life mattered.
Officials say the case highlights the importance of protecting children and reporting any suspected abuse immediately.
