Benoit Cransac, a former teacher at Isidore Newman School, has been re-arrested for the third time as prosecutors added new charges in an ongoing child exploitation investigation. Cransac, 49, was booked on 17 new counts of video voyeurism involving a child under 17.
This latest arrest brings the total number of charges against Cransac to 42.
Timeline of Cransac’s Arrests
- January 8, 2026: Cransac was first arrested on 22 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
- January 21, 2026: He was re-arrested on three additional counts of child sexual abuse material.
- March 20, 2026: Monday’s arrest on the new 17 counts of video voyeurism.
Since his first arrest in January, Cransac has been held at the Orleans Justice Center.
Cransac’s Ties to Isidore Newman School
Cransac worked as a teacher at Isidore Newman School for 13 years. According to a letter sent to parents by the school’s Head of School, Dale M. Smith, the new allegations are related to photos Cransac took of students last school year. The photos were taken during a school day in a classroom with other students present.
School officials clarified that the students in the photos were fully clothed, and their faces did not appear in the images. Authorities have identified the students involved and have been in direct contact with the families.
“For reasons of privacy and respect for the families involved, we will not disclose any further information,” Smith wrote in the letter.
School’s Response and Cooperation with Authorities
Head of School, Dale M. Smith, emphasized that the school continues to cooperate fully with the authorities and maintains regular communication with investigators. He also confirmed that Cransac is no longer employed by the school.
The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office has declined to answer additional specific questions, citing that the investigation is ongoing.
