Late-Night Incident at Cabin
Just before 1 a.m. on April 4, 2026, deputies from the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at a cabin in Broken Bow. Authorities later described the case as a “suspicious death,” prompting an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Victim Found With Gunshot Wound
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Braden Uhlmann suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.
Shooter’s Account to Police
According to investigators, Engel told authorities he was at the cabin with friends for his bachelor party. He reported hearing knocking noises and seeing a shadow outside the cabin. Believing something was wrong, he fired a single shot from a 9mm handgun.
