Groom detained after allegedly murdering a friend during his bachelor party

An Oklahoma man’s bachelor party ended in tragedy after authorities say he fatally shot another man during the gathering. Nolan Engel is now facing second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of 21-year-old Braden Uhlmann.

Shooting at Broken Bow Cabin

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, deputies in McCurtain County responded to a residence in Broken Bow just before 1 a.m. on April 4. When they arrived, they found Uhlmann suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

Investigation Points to Groom

Investigators determined that Engel, 22, was responsible for the shooting and placed him under arrest. The incident reportedly occurred during his bachelor party, where he was staying at an Airbnb cabin with friends.

Suspect’s Account of Events

According to court documents cited by local outlet KXII, Engel told investigators he heard knocking noises and saw a shadow outside the cabin before firing a 9mm handgun. After the shot, he and another friend went outside and found Uhlmann on the porch with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Authorities also stated that Engel made spontaneous statements identifying himself as the shooter when deputies arrived.

Case Ongoing

The investigation remains active, and officials have not released additional details. Engel is currently being held in the McCurtain County Jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 28.
