A high-speed chase through Ascension Parish ended with a crash and two people in critical condition, including the driver, Carmille Anderson, who is facing charges after the chase.
The Stabbing Incident
The incident began in Prairieville, where authorities received a call about a woman being stabbed in the neck. Deputies responded to the scene on Wednesday afternoon and found the woman seriously injured. Authorities say Carmille Anderson, the suspect in the stabbing, fled the scene in a van.
The Chase Through Gonzales
Gonzales police officers spotted Anderson in his van and began a high-speed pursuit. During the chase, crowds of onlookers gathered, recording the chaotic scene. Kayla Champagne, who was closing her office for the day, heard the sound of screeching tires and witnessed the chase. She described the situation as feeling like “ten minutes” but said it lasted only “two minutes.”
Despite significant damage to the van, including the loss of the driver’s side wheel, Anderson continued to drive through the streets, avoiding police attempts to stop him. The chase moved into a grocery store parking lot, where Anderson drove dangerously through parking spots, nearly hitting customers.
The Crash and Anderson’s Condition
The chase ended when the van finally stopped. Police discovered that Anderson had self-inflicted stab wounds. Both Anderson and the woman he allegedly stabbed are currently in the hospital, with both reported to be in critical condition.
Legal Action and Future Charges
Authorities have not yet formally charged Anderson but plan to do so once he is released from the hospital. The situation remains under investigation, and further updates will follow.
