A tragic case in Pennsylvania ended with a man being sentenced to over two decades in prison for killing his pregnant girlfriend. The victim’s child survived but requires constant medical care.

Pennsylvania Man Sentenced for Killing Pregnant Girlfriend

Kaiheem Williams, 20, was sentenced by Delaware County Court Judge Margaret Amoroso to 22 to 44 years in prison. He was convicted in April 2026 of third-degree murder, aggravated assault of an unborn child, and possession of an instrument of crime for the November 2024 killing of 19-year-old Tanyiah Bell, who was eight months pregnant.

The Fatal Shooting

The shooting occurred at the couple’s apartment in Lansdowne, a small town near Philadelphia. Williams called 911 and told emergency responders he was “blacked out” after smoking. He shot Bell in the head with a .45-caliber handgun while she was watching TV.

Bell’s unborn child underwent emergency surgery but was initially brain-dead. Doctors recommended removing life support, but her grandmother insisted on waiting. Against the odds, the baby survived and was named Miracle Bell. Now a toddler, Miracle requires machines to live and near-constant care but has begun moving her arms, legs, and head.

Courtroom Statements

Judge Amoroso addressed Bell’s mother during sentencing:
“I wish I had the power to bring Tanyiah back… I see your pain, I do. I see it, but I can’t imagine it.”

Williams claimed during his trial that he did not intend to shoot Bell. He said he was attempting to put a trigger lock on the gun and believed it was unloaded. However, the gun fired, and Bell was fatally injured.

Investigation Details

Williams told detectives he was alone with Bell when the shooting happened. He left the apartment briefly, returned, and “blacked out” before discovering Bell was shot. Video evidence showed him leaving the apartment shortly before calling 911. Police also found a .45-caliber bullet in his pocket.

The Child’s Struggle and Family Response

Despite the tragedy, Bell’s mother and grandmother continue to care for Miracle. Tylicia Bell, the grandmother, said:

“Sometimes I feel frustration and rage, because I look at her and it makes me think of her dad… But when I look at her and I’m caring for her, it makes me think of her mother and what she would want me to do. She would want me to raise her daughter the way I raised her.”
