A woman has been arrested in connection with a homicide in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. Rhonda Watts, 57, was taken into custody on Sunday, May 3, after being accused of intentionally striking a man with her vehicle, leading to his death.
Details of the Incident
On April 28, 2026, around 2:35 p.m., officers from the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to a report of a man who had been struck by a vehicle in the 3900 block of Saint Claude Avenue in the Bywater area. According to the NOPD, the driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. Unfortunately, the man later succumbed to his injuries on May 1, 2026.
Charges and Arrest
NOPD officials have accused Rhonda Watts of intentionally striking the victim with her vehicle. As a result, she has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. Watts was arrested on May 3 and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
