KENNER, La. – Kenner police have arrested five suspects, including both adults and adolescents, in connection with a recent series of vehicle burglaries that affected communities across the city. The break-ins took place between February 24 and February 27 and were concentrated in the University City and Susan Park neighborhoods.
Vehicle Burglaries and Arrests
Police reported that 14 vehicle burglaries were committed during the fast-moving crime spree. Following increased patrols and tips from local homeowners, investigators were able to link the suspects to the break-ins, leading to multiple arrests in early March.
The arrested suspects include:
- Kendell James, charged with 11 counts of vehicle burglary and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
- Two 16-year-old adolescents, who are facing charges related to the same burglaries.
- Jorge Luis Sanchez-Flores, apprehended on Loyola Boulevard and charged with one count of car burglary.
- Trey Cayette, charged with attempted car burglary, resisting arrest, simple escape, and obstruction. Cayette is also linked to a March 3 burglary in the Lexington area.
Police Response and Investigation
Detectives observed a rise in vehicle break-ins and responded by increasing police presence in the affected neighborhoods. Their efforts included saturating the areas with additional patrols, which contributed to the arrests.
Kenner Chief of Police Keith Conley emphasized the importance of community involvement, saying, “Residents should report suspicious activity to 9-1-1,” acknowledging that prompt calls from neighbors helped police identify the suspects.
Investigation Details and Community Tips
The burglaries took place across the city, not confined to a specific block. Some of the arrests came as a result of community tips combined with targeted investigations. Police have provided the names of the suspects and their criminal records, though booking information and court dates were not available at the time.
Ongoing Investigation
The arrested individuals remain in Kenner police custody and may face prosecution in Jefferson Parish. Police are encouraging drivers to secure their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight to prevent further incidents. Authorities also believe that additional tips and video footage could lead to more arrests as the investigation continues.
