Kenner police have arrested 21-year-old Anthony Tellez for allegedly firing an AR-15 style firearm into a canal early on Easter morning (April 5). Tellez was booked with illegal discharge of a firearm following the incident, which occurred around 4 a.m. on Vintage Drive and Iowa Avenue.
The Incident
Authorities responded to a gunshot report from a concerned citizen who heard shots fired in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered at least a dozen shell casings near the canal, which indicated a firearm had been discharged.
Investigation and Arrest
Kenner police used vehicle tracking cameras to identify Tellez as the suspect. According to officials, Tellez admitted to shooting into the canal, explaining that he was testing his new AR-15 style weapon.
Public Safety Concern
Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley emphasized that the gunfire posed a serious threat to public safety. The discharge of firearms in such a manner can endanger both the public and the surrounding environment, making this incident a matter of concern for local authorities.
