A Laplace man has been arrested after fleeing a traffic stop and leaving his 2-year-old child behind in the vehicle. Kyron Davis, 24, faces multiple charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, illegal carrying of a weapon, resisting an officer by flight, and child desertion, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic Stop and Fleeing Incident
The incident unfolded around 10:06 p.m. when a patrol deputy attempted to stop Davis for driving without headlights on Dominican Drive. When the deputy activated emergency lights, Davis passed a marked unit without lights on and continued driving. He made a U-turn at Dominican Drive and Carrollwood Drive, heading east, as the deputy pursued him with sirens on.
Davis eventually stopped his vehicle on Linda Lane, exited, and initially walked toward the deputy but then refused commands to get on the ground. He ran west, jumped a fence, and fled into the Riverlands Shopping Center.
Child Left Behind in the Vehicle
When deputies returned to the vehicle, they found a 22-year-old woman holding a toddler in the back seat. The woman, identified as the child’s mother, was reportedly a local resident.
Authorities also discovered a firearm and ammunition under the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Dash camera footage later showed the woman removing the child from the car after Davis fled.
Arrest and Charges
Davis was apprehended shortly after 11:30 p.m. when deputies observed him entering another vehicle. No injuries were reported during the pursuit. Davis is currently being held on multiple charges, including the child desertion charge for leaving his toddler behind.
