A healthcare facility in Denham Springs had to temporarily close on Thursday after a car accidentally crashed into the building, causing a power outage. The unexpected incident forced the medical center to pause operations for the day while staff focused on safety and helping patients rearrange their appointments.
Car Crashes Into Ochsner Health Center Building
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, a woman accidentally backed her car into the Ochsner Health Center building in Denham Springs on Thursday.
The impact caused damage to the facility and led to a power outage inside the building. Because of the crash and loss of electricity, the medical center was forced to close temporarily.
Authorities did not report any serious structural damage beyond the immediate area of impact.
Power Outage Leads to Temporary Closure
Following the crash, the health center lost power. Officials decided to close the facility as a safety precaution.
Scott Mabry, Chief Operating Officer at Ochsner Baton Rouge, said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution. Medical facilities rely heavily on electricity for equipment, patient care, and safety systems, so operating without stable power was not considered safe.
As a result, the center remained closed for the rest of the day.
No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, the incident did not cause any injuries.
Officials confirmed that:
- No patients were harmed
- No staff members were injured
- The driver involved in the crash was also unharmed
The quick response from staff and authorities helped ensure that the situation remained under control.
Staff Help Patients Reschedule Appointments
Because the facility had to close, several medical appointments were affected. Staff members worked quickly to assist patients who had scheduled visits.
The healthcare team contacted patients and helped them reschedule their appointments for another day. This ensured that patients could continue receiving care without major disruption.
Officials have not yet shared when normal operations at the center will fully resume.
Investigation and Safety Measures
Authorities are reviewing the details of the crash to understand how the accident happened. At this stage, the incident appears to be an accidental mistake while reversing the vehicle.
Officials are also assessing any building damage and checking electrical systems before reopening the facility to the public.
