The incident took place on March 19 in Ramapo, New Jersey, in a residential area where many families were preparing for Passover. A four-year-old boy reportedly approached a mailbox near a postal truck when the mailman, Gabriel Stan, allegedly shoved him to the ground.
Security footage of the incident shows the child falling after the push, with his yarmulke coming off his head. The boy quickly stood up, picked it up, and ran back toward other children, who were seen moving away from the scene in fear. The accused mailman was also seen gesturing angrily toward the children afterward.
Community Reactions and Concerns
Residents in the area have expressed anger and concern over the incident. Many people described the accused as someone who had shown aggressive behaviour in the past.
A local resident, Yoseph, shared that he had a negative experience with Stan earlier, saying the mailman became angry even when he tried to thank him. His wife also described similar behaviour, claiming that simple questions often led to shouting.
Another resident, Miriam Kingoff, strongly criticised the act, calling it unacceptable and saying there is no justification for harming a child. She added that children in the area often gather around mail trucks out of curiosity, not to cause trouble.
