A shocking case from Long Island, New York, has ended with a life sentence after a minor dispute turned into a brutal crime. What began as anger over a parked car led to a chain of events that resulted in a man’s death and multiple arrests.
Life Sentence in Long Island Murder Case
A 23-year-old woman, Kayla Alvarenga, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for her role in the killing of Linver Ortiz Ponce. The sentencing took place on April 28, 2026, after she was found guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, and conspiracy.
The court’s decision means she will spend the rest of her life behind bars. Prosecutors described the case as especially disturbing due to her involvement of teenagers in the crime.
How a Small Dispute Turned Deadly
The incident dates back to September 17, 2022, when Linver Ortiz Ponce parked his car outside Alvarenga’s home in Bay Shore. According to prosecutors, this simple act triggered an extreme reaction.
Upset over the car being parked there, Alvarenga reportedly confronted him and demanded that he move. Instead of stopping there, she called others, including Christopher Perdomo and several teenagers, and told them to remove the man from the vehicle.
Attack and Kidnapping
The group arrived in a stolen car and pulled Ponce out of his vehicle while he was sleeping. He was beaten and his car was taken. In fear, he ran away and tried to hide at a nearby gas station.
However, the situation escalated further. According to officials, Alvarenga instructed the group to find him again. Surveillance footage later showed the victim being forced into a car at gunpoint.
He was then taken to another location while being assaulted. The group followed instructions to meet at a nearby parking area, where the violence continued.
Final Moments of the Victim
At the location, prosecutors said the victim was beaten again. Despite trying to escape, he was shot multiple times. Authorities confirmed that he died at the scene.
After the crime, the group abandoned the stolen vehicles in different areas and returned to Alvarenga’s home. Investigators said items taken from the victim were shared among those involved.
Legal Action Against Others Involved
Christopher Perdomo, one of the main co-defendants, was later arrested in another state. He pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges, including murder and kidnapping, and is expected to be sentenced in May 2026.
Other individuals, including minors, have also faced legal action for their involvement in the crime.
Statement from Authorities
Raymond Tierney, the Suffolk County District Attorney, strongly criticised the incident. He said that parking on a public street should never lead to such violence. He also highlighted how the use of minors made the case even more serious.
Officials stated that the crime was carefully planned and carried out under Alvarenga’s direction, making her fully responsible for what happened.
