Louisiana’s film industry is celebrating after the film Sinners, which was filmed in and around New Orleans, won four Oscars, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan. This victory highlights Louisiana’s growing reputation as a top location for major film productions.
Louisiana’s Film Industry Success
Film Louisiana President Jason Waggenspack expressed his excitement about the success of Sinners, stating that it reinforces the state’s strong position in the film industry. “We’ve already developed a reputation for having some of the most talented crews in the country,” he said, highlighting the state’s skilled stunt performers, cinematographers, makeup artists, and production teams.
He also pointed out that Louisiana’s food scene, with its excellent caterers, adds to the appeal of filming in the state.
Record-Breaking Oscar Nominations
Sinners was nominated for 16 Oscars, setting a new record for the most nominations for a single film. Waggenspack believes that such recognition will provide a significant boost to Louisiana’s already thriving film industry.
He also mentioned that the success of Louisiana-made films continues to attract attention from Hollywood producers. “Every time we see an Oscars win for a Louisiana-made film, it opens up more opportunities,” he said, adding that producers in Los Angeles are eager to work with Louisiana-based teams.
Louisiana’s History with the Oscars
Waggenspack also pointed out that Louisiana has a strong history of Oscar success. “We’ve had six Best Picture winners from Louisiana, with the last one being Green Book,” he said. He also noted that every year, for the past six years, at least one major Oscar-nominated film has been shot in Louisiana, proving the state’s continued importance in the global film industry.
