Free Concealed Carry Course Announced in Lafourche Parish
Craig Webre announced that the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a free concealed carry training course on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The class will take place at the LPSO Shooting Range located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland.
Officials say the course will provide important information for residents who plan to carry a concealed firearm, especially those who want to better understand safety practices and state laws.
What the Course Will Cover
The training session will focus on several key topics related to firearm ownership and concealed carry.
Participants will learn about:
- Gun safety practices
- Proper firearm storage
- Legal responsibilities and liability
- Locations where concealed carry is prohibited
The course aims to help residents become more informed and responsible firearm owners.
Course Schedule and Requirements
The class is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and will end around 5:00 p.m., with a break for lunch during the day.
Officials said participants who are taking the class as part of the process to obtain a Louisiana concealed carry permit must attend the entire course.
However, individuals who are attending only for educational purposes may leave at any time.
Participants must bring the following items:
- A handgun in good working condition
- 50 rounds of ammunition
- Eye protection (sunglasses or regular eyeglasses are acceptable)
- Ear protection (earplugs or earmuffs)
Registration Required for the Free Course
Although the training is free, registration is required because space is limited.
Residents can sign up online through the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office website.
For additional information, participants can contact Captain John Champagne with the sheriff’s office by phone or email.
Officials encourage anyone interested in learning more about safe firearm use and Louisiana gun laws to register early.
Understanding Concealed Carry Laws in Louisiana
Louisiana law allows individuals 18 years or older to carry a concealed firearm without a permit or formal training.
However, this law only applies to individuals who are legally allowed to possess a firearm under state and federal law.
There are also important limitations to understand.
For example:
- The permitless carry law only applies within Louisiana.
- It does not automatically apply in other states.
Individuals who want to carry concealed in states that recognize Louisiana permits must still obtain a Louisiana concealed carry permit.
Why Training Is Still Encouraged
Even though training is not required for permitless carry in Louisiana, law enforcement officials strongly encourage residents to take safety courses.
Training programs like this one can help gun owners better understand how to safely handle firearms and avoid dangerous situations.
Officials say education and responsible firearm ownership are key to improving community safety.
