A Louisiana man who previously faced public backlash after allegedly harassing a fisherman and using racial slurs has now been arrested following another confrontation, this time involving a roadway disturbance in Gonzales.
Authorities say 46-year-old Matthew Madere was taken into custody after deputies investigated reports of threats and reckless driving during an argument involving multiple people on May 15. The latest arrest comes only months after Madere was accused in a separate incident that drew major attention online and sparked outrage in the local community.
Deputies Responded to Roadway Disturbance
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the area near Cessna Street and Highway 429 in Gonzales after receiving reports of a verbal altercation involving several individuals in the roadway.
During the investigation, authorities said witnesses reported that Madere made repeated threats during the confrontation.
Deputies also accused him of driving recklessly and using his vehicle to block another driver on the roadway. Investigators reviewed witness statements and video footage before making the arrest.
Matthew Madere Faces Multiple Charges
Following the investigation, deputies arrested Madere and booked him into the Ascension Parish Jail.
He now faces several charges, including disturbing the peace, reckless operation of a vehicle, and simple obstruction of a highway of commerce.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details explaining what caused the roadway dispute.
Previous Incident Drew Public Attention
Madere was already known publicly because of a separate incident that reportedly happened in December 2025 inside a gated neighborhood.
According to reports, a man named Marlon Cox said he was fishing at a neighborhood pond when he noticed a truck allegedly following him aggressively as he attempted to leave the area.
Cox claimed he tried turning around by backing into a driveway, but Madere allegedly blocked his vehicle using his truck.
The incident gained attention after Cox said video footage showed Madere using racial slurs and ordering him to leave the neighborhood.
Although the encounter reportedly sparked widespread criticism online, authorities said no police report was officially filed in connection with that earlier incident.
Video Evidence Played Role in Latest Arrest
In the newest case, investigators said witness accounts and video evidence helped deputies piece together what happened during the roadway confrontation.
Authorities often rely on cellphone footage, surveillance cameras, and witness recordings in incidents involving threats or reckless driving, especially when multiple people are present during the event.
The sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether additional evidence or charges could emerge as the investigation continues.
Community Reacts to Repeat Allegations
The arrest has renewed public attention on Madere because of the similarities between the two incidents involving confrontations and alleged aggressive behavior.
Many people online have continued discussing the earlier fisherman incident while reacting to the latest arrest. Community members have also raised concerns about road rage, public confrontations, and the role video recordings now play in documenting disputes.
While the criminal charges connected to the latest case still need to move through the legal system, the repeated allegations have already generated strong reactions across social media and local news platforms.
