A shocking and disturbing incident in Washington state has led to a murder charge against a 68-year-old man accused of deliberately using his car to kill an elderly woman in a YMCA parking lot. Authorities say the suspect waited in his vehicle for nearly an hour before targeting the victim.
The woman, 88-year-old Shinko Oshino, was struck, carried on the hood of the car, and then run over in what investigators describe as a deliberate and premeditated attack.
Washington Man Charged With Premeditated Murder
Mark Alexander Adams, 68, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder following a deadly incident that took place on February 28 in Bellevue, Washington.
According to court records, Adams is accused of using his vehicle as a weapon to kill Shinko Oshino, an 88-year-old woman who was walking in the parking lot of the Bellevue Family YMCA early that morning.
Authorities say the attack appeared to be planned, based on surveillance footage and witness accounts.
Suspect Allegedly Waited in Parking Lot
Surveillance video from the YMCA reportedly shows a white Toyota Camry entering the parking lot around 6:45 a.m.
The vehicle made several circles around the lot before returning to a parking spot.
Investigators believe Adams remained in the car for nearly an hour, appearing to wait for a potential victim.
Court documents suggest he was “lying in wait for a pedestrian” before the attack took place.
Elderly Woman Targeted in Parking Lot
Around an hour after the vehicle first arrived, Oshino was seen walking through the parking lot.
According to investigators, the Camry suddenly pulled out of its parking spot and aligned itself with her walking path.
The car then accelerated directly toward her.
Authorities say the vehicle struck Oshino and carried her on the hood for more than 120 feet before braking.
When the woman fell onto the ground, the car allegedly accelerated again and drove over her.
Police say the driver did not stop after the incident.
Witnesses Described the Horrifying Scene
Several witnesses saw the incident unfold in the parking lot.
One witness told investigators the car was moving quickly while the victim was on the hood.
At first, the witness thought the object on the vehicle was a fake body before realizing it was a real person.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after, but Oshino was pronounced dead.
Police later found identification near the body, and YMCA staff members helped confirm the victim’s identity.
Suspect Linked to Additional Attacks
Investigators say the violent events may not have ended in Bellevue.
According to law enforcement, Adams allegedly continued driving south later that same day.
Authorities say he struck two more people in Tacoma, Washington.
One of the victims reportedly suffered a fractured spine.
Because of these incidents, officials say additional criminal charges could be filed.
Arrest and Upcoming Court Hearing
Adams was arrested on March 1, one day after the deadly incident.
He is currently facing charges including:
- First-degree premeditated murder
- Felony hit-and-run
He is expected to appear in King County court for an arraignment hearing on Monday.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review evidence and determine whether more charges will be added.
Community Shock After Tragic Incident
The brutal nature of the attack has shocked residents in Bellevue, a city located just east of Seattle across Lake Washington.
Local officials and community members have expressed grief over the loss of Oshino, who was described as an elderly resident simply going about her morning routine.
The case has also raised concerns about public safety and the potential motives behind the attack.
