Relationship Turned Violent
Authorities said Rosado and Tatro started dating in September 2021 and got married just four months later. However, investigators later discovered that domestic violence had become a major issue in their relationship.
According to prosecutors, Jillian Tatro was planning to leave Rosado shortly before she was killed.
A witness reportedly heard Rosado threaten to kill her if she ever left him.
Victim’s Son Made Horrifying Discovery
On May 28, 2022, the couple went to Tatro’s apartment on Charles Street in North Adams. A downstairs neighbor later reported hearing the couple arguing before leaving for work around 10:15 p.m.
About 30 minutes later, Tatro’s son arrived at the apartment and saw Rosado leaving the home.
Rosado allegedly told the teen that his mother had gone out with a friend.
The next day, after being unable to contact his mother, Tatro’s son entered the apartment and found her dead near the entryway.
He immediately called police.
Victim Suffered Multiple Injuries
Investigators said Jillian Tatro suffered brutal injuries during the attack.
According to the medical examiner, she was:
- Stabbed 10 times
- Slashed 6 times
- Suffered blunt force trauma to the head
Police used witness statements, cellphone data, and evidence from the apartment to determine that Rosado killed her between 10:15 p.m. and 10:42 p.m. on May 28, 2022.
Prosecutors Highlight Domestic Violence Risks
Following the sentencing, Berkshire County District Attorney Timothy Shugrue said the case shows the deadly risks domestic violence victims can face when trying to leave abusive relationships.
He praised Tatro’s son for showing courage during the trial and said her death had a lasting impact on her family and community.
Officials noted that the period when a domestic violence victim decides to leave is often considered the most dangerous time in the relationship.
Life Sentence Brings Case to End
With the sentencing now complete, Luis Rosado will remain behind bars for life without any chance of parole.
The case serves as another tragic reminder of the serious consequences of domestic violence and the emotional trauma experienced by surviving family members, especially children who witness or discover violent crimes involving loved ones.
