Actress Melissa Gilbert has opened up about the emotional toll following the arrest of her husband, Timothy Busfield, calling the experience “the most traumatizing” period of their lives.
Emotional Impact
In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America, Gilbert said their life has completely changed. She described feeling like everything they had planned for the future has been lost, adding that they are grieving their old life and struggling to cope with the situation.
Standing By Her Husband
Gilbert firmly defended Busfield, saying she believes in his innocence. She stated that if she ever thought he had harmed a child, she would not support him. She also expressed concern that even if he is cleared, his reputation may never fully recover.
Allegations Against Timothy Busfield
Busfield was arrested in January after authorities in Albuquerque issued a warrant. He faces serious charges, including multiple counts of criminal s**ual contact with a minor and child abuse. The allegations involve incidents said to have taken place on the set of the TV show The Cleaning Lady.
Legal Status and Defense
Busfield has denied all allegations, calling them false and saying he intends to fight the case in court. He was released from custody under strict conditions, including no contact with the alleged victims and restrictions on interacting with minors. In February, a grand jury indicted him on multiple counts, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Upcoming Trial
The trial is scheduled to begin in May 2027. His lawyer, Larry Stein, stated that Busfield plans to challenge the charges at every stage and is confident that the truth will come out in court.
