MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A woman and her three children were carjacked and attacked outside a Burger King on Winchester Road in Memphis, authorities report. The carjacking incident led to the arrest of Alexis Kearney, 31, and Antonio Alexander, 25, who are facing multiple charges in connection with the crime.

Arrests and Charges

Kearney has been charged with carjacking, while Alexander faces several felony and misdemeanor charges. These include theft of property, theft of a firearm, and aggravated assault and assault, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

The Incident at Burger King

On Monday night, Kristin Gillia was in the drive-thru at a Burger King when she realized her order was incomplete. “They forgot the fries,” she told local CBS affiliate WREG. After ordering a cheeseburger to complete her meal, she was asked to pull up and come inside the restaurant.

Children Left in the SUV

Gillia brought her daughter into the restaurant but left her two other children inside their recently purchased 2007 Ford Edge. She instructed the children to lock the doors while she went inside to retrieve her missing items.

Carjacking and Attack

While inside the restaurant, the children ran in and told Gillia that someone was trying to steal their vehicle. Gillia immediately rushed outside to confront the suspects. “I ran around and opened the door, and I tried to insert myself into the situation,” Gillia told WREG. “I just got the car. Me and my kids need it.”

As she tried to intervene, she was reportedly pushed away by one of the suspects, who allegedly said, “put it in drive.” The suspects drove off, but not before running over Gillia’s foot and pulling one of her children from the vehicle, pushing him to the ground.

Vehicle Found and Evidence

A witness reportedly discovered a gun at the scene, and the stolen Ford Edge was later found parked on a nearby road, as reported by WHBQ. Gillia and one of her children were taken to a local hospital for treatment following the incident.

Court Hearings for Suspects

Antonio Alexander had a court hearing on Friday, while Alexis Kearney is scheduled for a mental evaluation on March 12.
