Tamisha Cheyniece Drake, 33, from Angelina County, Texas, is facing serious charges after allegedly digging up the grave of her own deceased daughter. The disturbing discovery took place at the Davis Memorial Gardens in the Cedar Grove area, located approximately 130 miles northeast of Houston.
Grave Disturbance Leads to Investigation
On Thursday, the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbed grave at the cemetery. Upon arrival, authorities found that a newborn’s grave had been tampered with, and the child’s body, along with the container in which it was buried, were missing. The investigation quickly turned to Drake, who reportedly confessed to the crime.
Drake’s Confession and Discovery of the Body
Drake allegedly admitted to authorities that she had exhumed the body of her baby, who she claimed did not survive childbirth in February. She then directed investigators to an unoccupied residence, where they found the child’s body still inside the container in the driveway.
Charges and Possible Consequences
Tamisha Drake has been charged with felony abuse of a corpse, a state jail felony in Texas, which is the lowest level of felony in the state. This charge could lead to a sentence ranging from 180 days to two years in jail.
As of Sunday, Drake remained in custody at the Angelina County Jail, and information regarding her upcoming court date was not immediately available.
