The boy’s mother described the extent of his injuries, including bruises on his body and face, a swollen nose, and a forehead that had swollen nearly 10 centimeters. The boy was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and his mother, devastated by what had happened, expressed her anger and shock.
She explained to reporters, “I’m beyond angry, I’m just numb.” She also expressed concern that there might be other victims, stating, “I think the 20 people around him who were filming the incident are just as guilty.” The mother immediately began working with the Kumamoto Prefectural Police to press charges against the attackers, hoping to bring the perpetrators to justice.
A Mother’s Desperate Attempt for Accountability
In her desperate attempt to hold those responsible accountable, the mother shared the video on her own Instagram account three days after it was first shown to her. Along with the video, she appealed to the public, asking people to “please share” the footage. She also issued a warning to the attackers, stating, “Those who do not come to apologize will face social sanctions. We know your school, so be prepared.”
The video eventually caught the attention of an exposé account known as Deathdol Note, run by Masato Kosaka, a 37-year-old man who uses social media to expose bullying and crimes.
Kosaka, a victim of bullying himself, expressed his disgust upon seeing the video, describing it as “sickening.” He explained that his goal with the Deathdol Note account was to cause a stir and pressure adults to take action against bullying, which he claims is often covered up by schools and police.
Kosaka argued that while there may be secondary damage caused by sharing these videos, it was necessary to bring these issues to light, saying, “If we don’t do this kind of activity, the cover-ups will continue.” He acknowledged that exposing these crimes may have unintended consequences, but he felt that the public needed to see the truth.
The video’s circulation on social media, amplified by Kosaka’s account, helped to gain further attention to the case.
Justice for the Victim
Thanks to the efforts of the mother and the social media exposure, the case gained traction, and on January 16, 2026, the police arrested the 15-year-old boy responsible for the attack. When questioned, the boy admitted to his actions, stating, “I was angry, so I used violence to injure him.” The arrest marked a significant turning point in the case, with the boy’s confession providing a sense of accountability for the victim and his family.
This case raises important questions about bullying, accountability, and the role of social media in exposing wrongdoing.
