A section of Interstate 12 eastbound was closed Sunday afternoon in Livingston Parish after a crash near the Satsuma Road exit.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reported that the closure occurred past the Satsuma Road exit at mile marker 21.
Emergency crews shut down the eastbound lanes as they responded to the accident.
Authorities advised drivers to take alternate routes while crews worked at the crash site.
Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital
According to Acadian Ambulance, the crash involved a motorcycle and another vehicle.
The motorcyclist suffered serious enough injuries to require an air medical transport.
Emergency responders airlifted the rider to a nearby hospital for treatment.
At this time, officials have not released details about the motorcyclist’s condition.
Heavy Traffic Reported in the Area
Officials said traffic congestion quickly built up after the crash.
Backup traffic was reported approaching the area near LA-447, also known as Walker South Road.
