The LHSAA softball playoff brackets are out, and teams from the New Orleans area are ready to compete for the title. This year, only two local teams have secured the top seed in their divisions, putting them in a strong position as the playoffs begin.
Top Seeds Lead the Way
The biggest highlight is that Mount Carmel and Riverside are the only No. 1 seeds from the New Orleans area.
Mount Carmel, which reached the semifinals last season, will start directly from the second round in Division I select. Riverside has also earned a No. 1 seed in Division IV select and will enjoy a similar advantage.
Strong Positions for Other Teams
Several other local teams have also secured high seeds and first-round byes. These include Chapelle, John Curtis, and Ponchatoula in Division I select.
In Division II select, teams like Hannan, St. Charles, and Patrick Taylor are also in strong positions with byes.
These teams will enter the competition later, giving them extra rest and preparation time.
Key First-Round Matchups
Some important first-round games include Dominican hosting St. Scholastica in Division I select.
Other matchups to watch include:
- John Ehret travelling to face Caddo Magnet
- Warren Easton taking on Lafayette
- Edna Karr facing Captain Shreve
In Division II select, teams like Academy of Our Lady, Cabrini, and Kenner Discovery will also be in action.
Other Notable Teams
In Division I nonselect, Destrehan has earned a bye and will join the competition in the next round.
Teams like Hahnville, Chalmette, and Northshore are also part of the playoff mix and will be looking to make a strong run.
What This Means for the Playoffs
With strong seeding and multiple teams getting byes, New Orleans area schools have a good chance of going deep into the tournament. The early rounds will be important for lower-seeded teams trying to create upsets.
At the same time, top-seeded teams will be watching closely and preparing for tougher matches ahead.
