A fresh wave of concern over President Donald Trump’s mental health has emerged following a controversial Easter message he posted on social media, which has sparked renewed scrutiny from both critics and medical professionals. MS NOW medical analyst Dr. Vin Gupta has publicly stated that Trump is showing “all the signs of dementia,” citing troubling signs displayed in his statements.
Trump’s Easter Message Raises Alarm
The controversy began with a statement Trump posted on Easter Sunday, in which he wrote: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****** Strait, you crazy b*******, or you’ll be living in H*** – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
This post, which included threats tied to the ongoing tensions with Iran, immediately caused concern among observers, particularly given that Trump had been largely out of public view for several days leading up to it. The message fueled further speculation about his mental health and sparked a polarized debate on his fitness to hold office.
White House Response to Mental Health Concerns
In response to the controversy and growing rumors about his mental state, the White House’s Rapid Response account issued a statement dismissing the claims, saying, “Deranged liberals cook up insane conspiracy theories when @POTUS goes 12 hours without speaking to press… Fear not! President Trump literally never stops working.”
However, the message did little to quell growing concerns.
Dr. Gupta’s Concerns: Trump Showing Signs of Dementia
Dr. Vin Gupta, responding to Trump’s Easter social media post, pointed out several warning signs that he believes are consistent with dementia. He listed the following symptoms: “Erratic behavior, difficulty finishing sentences, confusion, illogical train of thought, and word-finding difficulties.” Dr. Gupta added, “The president is exhibiting all the signs of dementia.”
Dr. Gupta, who has raised similar concerns in recent months, pointed to a “trend line” of worsening behavior. He also noted that Trump’s father, Fred Trump, suffered from dementia before passing away in 1999 from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease.
The Significance of Trump’s Cognitive Tests
Concerns about Trump’s mental fitness have been compounded by his frequent mentions of cognitive tests, which he often claims to have “aced.” Dr. Gupta suggested that these frequent tests might signal underlying concerns, stating, “This is not the flex he thinks it is.” He further explained that repeated use of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment typically indicates that doctors are monitoring for cognitive impairment, not just assessing for it.
Psychologist John Gartner echoed this view, commenting, “If you’re giving it to him three times, that means you’re not assessing dementia. That means you’re monitoring dementia.”
Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, has also weighed in, commenting on her uncle’s cognitive state. She said, “I see that same look of confusion. I see that he does not always seem to be oriented to time and place. His short-term memory seems to be deteriorating.”
Reactions from the Political Sphere
Trump’s remarks have sparked strong reactions from both sides of the political spectrum. Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Trump’s rhetoric, calling it “insane” and pointing out that escalating tensions with Iran contradict his earlier statements. She even suggested that Congress should “intervene in Trump’s madness.”
On the other hand, several Democrats, including Yassamin Ansari and Senator Chris Murphy, have gone further, invoking the 25th Amendment as a possible solution to address concerns about Trump’s mental state. Senator Murphy described the situation as “completely, utterly unhinged,” while Representative Ansari remarked that the amendment “exists for a reason.”
Former Trump officials such as Anthony Scaramucci and Miles Taylor also called for the president’s removal from office, citing national security concerns amid the ongoing Iran crisis.
