A New York woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after throwing a stick of dynamite at her boyfriend during a domestic dispute, causing injuries so severe that he ultimately lost his hand. Woman Sentenced to 18 Years for Dynamite Attack
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced on May 27 that 35-year-old Keyonna Waddell was sentenced to 18 years behind bars. In addition to her prison term, she will be placed under five years of post-release supervision.
The sentence follows a jury trial in April, where Waddell was found guilty of first-degree assault and first-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors described the attack as a violent act that left the victim permanently injured.
Argument Between Couple Led to Violent Incident
According to investigators, the incident took place on March 22, 2024, after Waddell and her boyfriend became involved in an argument. Following the dispute, both individuals left their apartment separately.
Later that night, the victim returned home and went to sleep, believing the disagreement had ended. However, the situation took a dangerous turn while he was resting.
Authorities said the man was awakened by a hissing sound coming from inside the residence. When he looked around, he noticed what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.
Explosion Caused Victim to Lose His Hand
After discovering the device, the victim reportedly attempted to stop it from igniting. When those efforts failed, he picked it up and tried to throw it out of a window in an effort to protect himself and the property.
