A man from Texas was arrested in Louisiana after authorities discovered dozens of stolen catalytic converters inside his vehicle. Suspect arrested at Mall of Louisiana
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were investigating reports of catalytic converter thefts on Thursday in Denham Springs, Louisiana.
Several vehicle owners had reported that the parts were stolen from their cars in the Juban Road and Buddy Ellis Road areas.
During the investigation, authorities were able to identify a suspect and track him to Baton Rouge.
Deputies eventually located the suspect at the Mall of Louisiana, where they found him with several stolen items.
21 catalytic converters found in vehicle
The suspect was identified as Nessiah Daleon Dunham, a man from Houston, Texas.
When deputies searched Dunham’s vehicle, investigators said they discovered a total of 21 catalytic converters.
Authorities believe the parts had been stolen from multiple vehicles.
Catalytic converters are valuable components in vehicles because they contain precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium. These metals can be sold for high prices, which has led to a rise in thefts in recent years.
Suspect taken into custody
After discovering the stolen converters, Baton Rouge police took Dunham into custody.
He was booked as a fugitive for the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
