A troubling case from Louisiana has raised serious concerns about how young children are treated in schools. A parent has now taken legal action after a video surfaced showing a former teacher using force against a small child in a classroom.
What Happened at Ball Elementary School
The incident took place at Ball Elementary School in September 2023. Security footage reportedly shows a young boy sitting on top of his desk after the school day had ended.
According to reports, the teacher, Stephanie Robertson, was on her phone when she noticed the child. She then approached him, scolded him, and forcefully pulled him off the desk, causing him to fall to the ground.
Escalation of the Situation
After being thrown down, the child climbed back onto the desk. The situation then became more intense. The boy tried to move away, but the teacher reportedly chased him, caught him, and carried him out of the classroom by the collar of his clothing.
The footage has been described as disturbing, especially given the young age of the child, who was said to be around five or six years old.
Legal Action Taken by the Family
The child’s parent has now filed a lawsuit against the Rapides Parish School Board. The legal case claims that the actions of the teacher were inappropriate and harmful.
The family’s attorney strongly criticised both the teacher’s behaviour and how the situation was handled afterward. He stated that the child was simply behaving like many young kids do and did not deserve such treatment.
Charges Against the Former Teacher
Reports indicate that the teacher was charged with simple battery. However, the case was handled through a local mayor’s court, which the family’s lawyer described as insufficient.
He argued that the seriousness of the incident required stronger legal action, including a formal arrest process.

Stephanie Robertson is no longer working at the school. As of now, neither she nor the school board has made a public statement about the lawsuit.
