During the dispute, Marcano-Marcano admitted to firing a gun near his wife’s feet. Authorities say this act created a highly dangerous situation, especially considering he was allegedly under the influence at the time.

After the gun was fired, Marcano-Marcano placed it on a nearby surface. His wife then tried to secure the weapon, reportedly to prevent further harm.
While attempting to put the gun away, it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck her in the stomach. This led to a critical medical emergency, and she was immediately taken to the hospital.
Doctors later confirmed that her unborn baby, who was about seven months along, did not survive the injury.
