A shocking and tragic incident at a Walmart store in Nebraska has left many people disturbed after a woman was shot dead by police during a violent situation involving a young child. What Happened at the Walmart Store
The incident took place on April 14 at a Walmart store in Omaha. Police were called after reports came in about a woman carrying a large kitchen knife inside the store.
The suspect, identified as Noemi Guzman, was seen on surveillance footage taking a knife from inside the store before approaching a woman who was shopping with her 3-year-old son.
The Attack and Kidnapping Attempt
According to police, Guzman threatened the child’s mother with the knife and forced her to move ahead while the toddler remained in the shopping cart. The situation quickly became extremely serious when Guzman allegedly took control of the child, which authorities described as a kidnapping attempt.
Outside the store, there was a brief verbal argument between the mother and Guzman before things escalated further.
Police Confrontation and Shooting
When officers arrived at the scene, they gave repeated verbal instructions to Guzman, asking her to drop the knife. However, she refused to follow the commands.
Police said that during this tense moment, Guzman used the knife to slash the young boy. Seeing the immediate danger to the child, officers opened fire and shot Guzman.
She died at the scene due to her injuries.
Condition of the Child
The 3-year-old boy, identified as Cyler Hillman, was rushed to a children’s hospital. He had cuts on his face and hands and had to undergo surgery.

Background of the Suspect
Reports suggest that Guzman had been dealing with schizophrenia and had a troubling past. In a previous incident in 2024, she allegedly set her father’s house on fire and later entered a church with a knife. In that case, she was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
In 2025, a judge ordered that she remain under court supervision due to concerns about her behaviour and mental health.
