Pregnant Woman and Boyfriend Found Dead in Baton Rouge Apartment
Averia Arceneaux, 33, and her boyfriend Johvon McKinley, 29, were found dead from gunshot wounds on Wednesday morning at the Afton Oaks apartment complex on Newcastle Road. Police say the deaths appear to have resulted from a domestic argument that escalated into a murder-suicide, though the investigation is ongoing.
Background and Previous Domestic Issues
Arceneaux had previously filed a battery charge against McKinley in July 2024. Court records show that McKinley was arrested on July 31, 2024, and released on bond a week later, with a protective order issued for Arceneaux for one year. However, Arceneaux later asked the court to dissolve the protective order, which was replaced with a no-contact order.
In August 2025, the battery charge was dismissed, and all bond restrictions, including the no-contact order, were removed. McKinley also had prior battery charges, including one in 2016 involving a different pregnant partner, but those cases were dismissed.
Pregnancy Announcement
Arceneaux had shared on Facebook and TikTok that she was expecting a baby boy, posting on Mother’s Day 2026 that her child was due in November.
