A Colorado mother has been charged in connection with the death of her 4-year-old son after investigators alleged she allowed a man she trusted to use harsh “boot camp”-style punishments on the child. The disturbing case has shocked the local community after police revealed the boy suffered severe injuries before his death.
Authorities in Aurora announced that 23-year-old Destini Rose Lipsky now faces charges of child ab*se resulting in death following the investigation into the young boy’s killing.
The case began earlier this month when emergency responders were called to an apartment where the child was found unconscious and not breathing.
Child Found With Severe Injuries
According to police, officers responded to an apartment on East Tennessee Avenue in Aurora on the night of May 16 after reports of an unresponsive child.
When officers arrived, they reportedly discovered the 4-year-old boy suffering from what authorities described as significant injuries.
Emergency medical teams rushed the child to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
Investigators later revealed that medical personnel were shocked by the extent of the child’s injuries. According to reports, the boy had bruises covering his body from head to toe.
Police processing the apartment also allegedly discovered a damaged belt on the kitchen counter near papers containing childlike handwriting.
Authorities believe the child had been forced to practice numbers shortly before the deadly incident.
Man Accused of Carrying Out Ab*se
The child had reportedly been left in the care of 24-year-old Alexander Martinez-Armstrong, who was arrested last week and charged with first-degree murder.
According to investigators, Lipsky told police she trusted Martinez-Armstrong deeply and considered him like a brother.
Police allege she intentionally placed her son in his care for what she described as a “boot camp” designed to correct behaviour she considered problematic.
Investigators said the alleged behavioural issues included lying, sneaking candy, taking items from her purse, and not listening.
Alleged Punishment Methods Revealed
According to court documents and investigators, Lipsky admitted giving Martinez-Armstrong permission to discipline the child using physical punishment methods she reportedly used herself.
Authorities said those methods allegedly included belt whippings, spankings, push-ups, planks, and wall sits.
The allegations have triggered outrage online and raised renewed concerns about abusive disciplinary practices involving young children.
Police believe the punishments escalated into deadly ab*se that ultimately caused the child’s death.
Mother Arrested in Separate County
Authorities later arrested Destini Rose Lipsky in El Paso County, located south of Arapahoe County, where Martinez-Armstrong had already been taken into custody.
Police said Lipsky is currently being held on a $500,000 bond while awaiting transfer to Arapahoe County for court proceedings.
Court records show she is scheduled to appear for a hearing later this week.
Community Reacts to Child Ab*se Allegations
The heartbreaking case has deeply disturbed many people due to the victim’s young age and the severe injuries reportedly discovered by medical staff.
Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death while prosecutors move forward with charges against both defendants.
