A disturbing case from Illinois has drawn attention after an 11-year-old boy was found wandering the streets injured and wearing only his underwear. The child reportedly sought help from a nearby business employee, which led police to uncover allegations of years of abuse inside his home. Authorities have now arrested the boy’s mother and her boyfriend as the investigation continues.
Illinois Boy Found Injured on Street Leads Police to Abuse Case
Police in Fox Lake, Illinois, arrested two adults after an 11-year-old boy was discovered bruised and bleeding while walking through the streets.
The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on March 6 when officers responded to the area of Nippersink Boulevard and Grand Avenue after receiving a report about an injured child.
According to the Fox Lake Police Department, a local business employee noticed the boy, who appeared badly hurt and was wearing only his underwear.
The employee allowed the child inside and contacted emergency services for help.
Boy Had Visible Injuries
When officers arrived, they saw that the child had serious visible injuries.
Police reported the boy had:
- Welts on his body
- Bruises and scratches
- Blood on his face
Due to the condition he was in, officers immediately took the boy into protective custody.
He was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Police Investigate the Child’s Home
Following the discovery, investigators went to the boy’s home located in the 30 block of East Grand Avenue.
There, police spoke with the child and his mother, 34-year-old Priscilla Marshall.
After interviewing her, officers arrested Marshall.
During the visit to the home, authorities also discovered two other young children inside the house.
The children were:
- A 1-year-old child
- A 2-year-old child
Police said both appeared unharmed.
Other Siblings Taken Into Protective Care
Authorities also learned that two other siblings were at school during the incident.
All four children were taken into protective custody to ensure their safety.
They were transported to the Lake County Child Advocacy Center in Gurnee for medical evaluations and forensic interviews.
Officials from the Lake County Department of Children and Family Services were notified about the situation.
After the evaluations, the children were placed temporarily with a family member.
Child Describes Years of Abuse
During interviews with investigators, the boy reportedly described years of abuse.
According to police, he said the abuse came from both his mother and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Cody Marion.
Investigators alleged that the child was subjected to multiple forms of mistreatment over several years.
According to police reports, the abuse included:
- Being struck with household objects
- Dish soap poured into his mouth and ears
- Being prevented from attending school
Authorities say the boy eventually fled the home and searched for help, which led him to the nearby business where the employee contacted police.
Boyfriend Also Arrested
After investigators completed forensic interviews with the children, detectives returned to the home.
They then arrested Cody Marion in connection with the case.
Both Marion and Marshall now face several criminal charges.
These charges include:
- Aggravated battery to a child
- Two counts of domestic battery
- Endangering the life or health of a child
Court Hearings Begin
Both suspects were taken to the Lake County Jail following their arrest.
They appeared in court for their first hearings shortly afterward.
According to reports:
- Cody Marion had a detention hearing on March 9.
- Priscilla Marshall had her detention hearing on March 10.
The case is currently ongoing as prosecutors continue reviewing the evidence.
