A Michigan couple is facing severe charges after allegedly subjecting their infant son to brutal abuse, leaving him with life-threatening injuries and permanent disabilities. The couple, 30-year-old Troy Michael Holt and 27-year-old Alyssa Nicole Holt, were arrested and charged with first-degree child abuse and torture, along with an additional charge of third-degree child abuse for Troy Holt.
The Shocking Abuse and Investigation
The investigation into the couple’s actions began in November 2025, after emergency responders were called to their home in Attica Township, Michigan. Authorities received a report about their 2-month-old son, who was found lethargic and unresponsive.
The infant was immediately transported to McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital, but due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to Hurley Medical Center. There, doctors identified a subdural hemorrhage, a life-threatening brain bleed.
The baby was then taken to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, where additional injuries were discovered. These included multiple broken ribs, a fractured shoulder blade, a broken forearm, and retinal hemorrhaging, all indicative of physical abuse rather than accidental injuries.
Ongoing Medical Care and Disturbing Findings
The child has continued to receive medical care for the significant injuries sustained, which are expected to cause long-term and permanent damage. Lapeer County Prosecutor John Miller described the case as one of the most disturbing he has encountered, stating that the injuries were “very, very irregular for a baby that was only a couple months old.”
Investigators believe the abuse occurred over an extended period of time, causing irreversible harm to the baby. Prosecutors have stated that the child will suffer from the effects of the abuse for the rest of his life.
Parents’ Initial Claims and Arrests
Initially, the Holts claimed that the child’s injuries were due to a series of accidents inside their home. However, after a thorough medical review, experts concluded that the injuries were consistent with intentional abuse. This prompted law enforcement to issue arrest warrants for both parents.
Child protective services intervened early in the investigation, restricting the Holts’ parental rights and eventually terminating them. The child is now in the care of a foster family.
The Holts’ Arrest and Legal Proceedings
On May 1, 2026, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in Davison Township to take Alyssa Holt into custody. Troy Holt, who had been attending Army Reserve training with the Michigan National Guard, was arrested later the same day at Fort Custer in Battle Creek.
Both parents are currently being held in the Lapeer County Jail on bonds of $200,000. They are scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference on May 8, 2026.
