St. Charles Parish Public Schools has initiated an independent forensic review following concerns about possible financial misrepresentation within the district.
Authorities Notified Early
District officials said they alerted the St. Charles Parish District Attorney and the Louisiana Legislative Auditor in late January after identifying potential inaccuracies in how financial information was presented to leadership.
Independent Firm Brought In
The district has hired accounting firm EisnerAmper to conduct a comprehensive review of its finances. Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and results will be shared with authorities once complete. Some details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the process.
Discrepancies in Financial Projections
According to the district, revenue projections and spending forecasts presented to the School Board did not materialize as expected. This led to financial decisions being made based on inaccurate data.
Officials emphasized that, so far, there is no evidence that any employee, vendor, or member of the public personally benefited from the discrepancies.
Steps Taken to Stabilize Finances
Over the past three months, the School Board has taken corrective action, including cutting approximately $5.1 million in anticipated spending for the current fiscal year.
Priority has been placed on maintaining funding for staff, classroom instruction, compliance, and student safety.
Budget Adjustments and Cost-Cutting Measures
The board approved a revised budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, while also strengthening internal financial controls.
Cost-saving steps include reducing travel and professional development expenses and delaying certain non-essential projects.
Projects Delayed and Moving Forward
Some long-term projects have been postponed, such as athletic facility upgrades and certain infrastructure improvements. However, projects already under contract—like auxiliary gym construction and safety upgrades—will continue.
Looking Ahead
The district is now preparing its budget for the next fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2026, with a proposal expected soon.
Officials say they remain committed to transparency, noting that School Board meetings are open to the public and livestreamed, with updates to be shared as more information becomes available.
