A late-night mass shooting outside a nightclub in Thibodaux left seven people wounded and several others injured while trying to escape the chaos, according to local police.
The shooting happened Sunday night near the intersection of East 10th Street and Narrow Street, an area known for nightlife activity in the small Louisiana city located southwest of New Orleans.
Authorities with the Thibodaux Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident as detectives gather evidence and interview witnesses.
Seven People Shot Outside Nightclub
Police said the gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. near a nightclub where a large crowd had gathered.
According to investigators, seven people suffered gunshot-related injuries during the shooting.
Officials confirmed that none of the gunshot injuries are currently considered life-threatening.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and transported victims for medical treatment.
More Injuries Reported During Panic
In addition to those struck by gunfire, several other people were reportedly injured while trying to flee the area after shots rang out.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of people hurt during the panic and stampede-like escape.
Witnesses reportedly ran from the crowded area in multiple directions as confusion spread following the shooting.
Police Still Searching for Answers
The Thibodaux Police Department said detectives are actively processing evidence and following investigative leads connected to the shooting.
Investigators are also interviewing witnesses who were present when the violence erupted.
As of now, police have not publicly explained what caused the shooting or whether multiple shooters may have been involved.
Authorities have also not announced any arrests.
