A runaway piglet caused an unexpected scene at a Louisiana hotel after officers with the Slidell Police Department responded to reports of the small animal wandering around the property and creating confusion among guests and staff.
According to police, the unusual incident happened at a local hotel in Slidell, where the piglet was spotted roaming freely around the area before officers arrived to help.
Authorities jokingly described the piglet as a difficult suspect to handle during the rescue effort.
Piglet Tried to Hide From Officers
When officers reached the hotel, they found the piglet moving around the property and avoiding attempts to catch it.
Police said the animal eventually ran underneath a patrol vehicle and refused to come out.
According to the department, officers spent time patiently trying to coax the piglet into safety while carefully avoiding frightening the animal.
The police department later shared that the piglet required “serious negotiation” before finally leaving its hiding spot beneath the police car.
Police Believe Piglet Was Abandoned
Investigators believe the piglet may have been abandoned at the hotel before it was discovered wandering around alone.
Authorities have not released information about who may have owned the animal or how long it had been at the property.
Fortunately, officers were eventually able to safely secure the piglet without any injuries to the animal or anyone involved.
Piglet Now Safe at Animal Shelter
After the rescue, the piglet was transported to the Slidell Animal Shelter.
Shelter staff are now caring for the animal while it undergoes veterinary evaluation.
Officials say the piglet will remain at the shelter until it can be placed into a suitable new home.
