A heartbreaking missing persons case in South Carolina may finally be nearing answers after authorities reportedly discovered human remains believed to belong to a mother who vanished four years ago.
Investigators say the remains could be those of Krystal Anderson, a mother of four who disappeared in 2022. The tragic case has deeply affected her family, especially her children, who have spent years living apart while waiting for answers.
Authorities Believe Remains May Belong to Missing South Carolina Mother
Krystal Anderson disappeared in August 2022 from Aiken County, South Carolina.
Family members immediately became concerned because they said the 30-year-old mother would never willingly abandon her four children.
Her sister, Shadria Smothers, previously told local media that Anderson always stayed in contact with family and friends and had never disappeared before.
According to loved ones, her sudden disappearance raised immediate fears that something terrible had happened.
Boyfriend Charged in Connection With Disappearance
Investigators later arrested Anderson’s boyfriend, Tony Berry, in connection with the case.
Authorities charged Berry with kidnapping and murder after Anderson’s DNA was allegedly discovered inside the trunk of his burned vehicle.
Reports stated that the car had been found abandoned in a wooded area in Newberry County, South Carolina.
Berry has denied wrongdoing, and legal proceedings against him remain ongoing.
Human Remains Recently Discovered
More recently, Aiken County deputies reported finding human remains buried near Highway 37 close to Blackville, South Carolina.
Officials have not officially confirmed the identity of the remains because DNA testing is still underway.
However, investigators believe the remains may belong to Krystal Anderson.
Private investigator Chandra Cleveland told local media that personal belongings found near the remains appeared identical to items belonging to Anderson.
The discovery reportedly devastated family members, bringing back painful emotions connected to her disappearance.
Family Hopes for Closure
According to Anderson’s sister, the family hopes the discovery may finally provide some closure after years of uncertainty.
Loved ones say they have struggled emotionally while waiting for answers about what happened to the missing mother.
The family also hopes the children will finally be able to begin processing the reality of their mother’s disappearance and death.
Children Living Separately Since Mother’s Disappearance
Since Anderson vanished, her four children have reportedly been living separately with different relatives.
Family members said one of the hardest parts of the tragedy has been keeping the siblings apart from one another.
According to Smothers, the children regularly stay connected through FaceTime calls during the week.
She also shared that the youngest child, now 6 years old, has especially struggled after going from living with siblings to feeling like an only child.
Murder Trial Postponed After Discovery
Tony Berry’s trial for the alleged kidnapping and murder of Anderson had reportedly been scheduled to begin next week.
However, reports say the trial has now been postponed following the recent discovery of the remains.
Authorities continue investigating the case while awaiting final DNA confirmation.
