A tense situation in Shreveport ended with arrests after an armed carjacking turned into a police chase and foot pursuit. Authorities say multiple suspects were involved, and the investigation is still ongoing as officers search for those who escaped.
Carjacking Incident in Shreveport
According to the Shreveport Police Department, the incident began earlier this week near Dupont Street and Marquette Street.
Police say several suspects approached a victim, pulled out guns, and forced the person out of their vehicle. The suspects then drove away in the stolen car, leaving the victim shaken but alive.
Police Chase and Crash
The following morning, patrol officers located the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. This led to a pursuit through the city.
The chase ended at the Gaillardia Apartments on Pierre Avenue, where the suspects crashed the vehicle into a tree. Immediately after the crash, four male suspects ran from the scene, trying to escape on foot.
K-9 Unit Helps Catch Suspects
A police K-9 unit played a key role in the arrests. K-9 Edy was deployed and quickly helped stop one suspect from getting far. Another suspect was captured by the handler during the chase.
Authorities later identified one of the suspects as Dandricus Kennedy. He was reportedly injured while resisting arrest and received medical treatment.
Juvenile Also Arrested
In addition to Kennedy, a 16-year-old juvenile was also taken into custody. Police found that Kennedy was carrying a firearm at the time of his arrest, adding to the seriousness of the case.
Both suspects are now facing charges of armed robbery.
Search for Remaining Suspects
Two other suspects managed to escape after the crash. Police are actively working to identify and locate them.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are asking the public to come forward with any information that could help in the case.
