Tesla has issued two major recalls affecting over 200,000 vehicles due to safety concerns that could increase the risk of accidents or injuries.
Cybertruck Recall: Risk of Wheel Stud Separation
Tesla is recalling 173 Cybertrucks from the 2024-2026 model years due to a potential safety issue with the vehicle’s 18-inch steel wheels. The recall stems from a defect in the rotor that could cause the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub, increasing the risk of a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report revealed that rough roads and cornering could place stress on the stud hole in the wheel rotor, leading to cracks. Over time, these cracks could cause the wheel stud to completely separate, potentially compromising the vehicle’s controllability.
To address the issue, Tesla will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts on affected vehicles with more durable parts at no cost to owners. Tesla’s recall number for this issue is SB-26-33-003.
Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 Recall: Rearview Camera Software Issue
In addition to the Cybertruck recall, Tesla is also recalling over 200,000 units of the Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 due to a software issue affecting the rearview camera. The problem causes the camera to become inoperable for a brief period, which could impact the driver’s view and increase the risk of a collision.
Tesla’s recall number for this issue is SB-26-00-016.
No Known Accidents or Injuries
As of now, Tesla has not reported any accidents, fatalities, or injuries related to either of these issues. However, the recalls aim to prevent any potential risk of harm and ensure vehicle safety.
