ATCHISON COUNTY — Law enforcement officers are investigating a suspect following a traffic stop that led to multiple drug-related allegations.

According to Mike Wilson, the incident happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North 11th Street in Atchison.

An officer on patrol stopped a Ford Taurus for a traffic violation. During the stop, police say the driver was found to be in possession of illegal drugs and was transporting an open container of alcohol.

The driver was identified as 48-year-old William Gehring of Kansas City, Missouri.

Police arrested Gehring on requested charges that include:

  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Transporting an open container
  • Illegal use of a vehicle tag

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
