The family of a man whose remains were discovered in Ponchatoula says he was shot before he died, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.
Discovery of Remains
In September 2025, developers clearing a property along River Road found the body of James Wood, 43, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. His identity was not confirmed until March 2026, after which authorities began investigating the case as a homicide.
Cause of Death and Burial Plans
Wood’s family said he had been shot in the back of the head. They plan to bury him in Vidor, Texas, so he can be close to his daughters. Due to the ongoing homicide investigation, the family cannot have his remains cremated, as they may need to be examined further for evidence.
The case is under active investigation, and authorities continue to gather information about the circumstances surrounding Wood’s death.
