A neighborhood dispute in Ascension Parish is drawing attention as residents clash over bright stadium-style lights installed on a private soccer training field. While some neighbors say the lights are disruptive, others support the facility as a valuable space for local kids.
Legal Dispute and Violations
Dr. Michael Robichaux, who owns the 25-acre property, was served with a temporary restraining order filed by the parish.
Officials say he violated local codes related to exterior lighting, unpermitted construction, and operating a commercial-type facility in a residential zone.
Purpose of the Property
Robichaux said he expanded the property to create a training complex for his club team and local high school athletes.
He explained the need arose after teams lost access to their previous practice location at Lamar Dixon Expo Center earlier this year.
Neighbors Raise Concerns
Several nearby residents say the large light fixtures, installed in February, have significantly impacted their quality of life.
Neighbor Tim Dier said the lights are comparable to those used at high school stadiums, with tall poles placed close to homes. Some residents report bright light shining into their houses at night and worry about safety risks if the structures were to fail.
Community Support for the Field
Not all neighbors oppose the project. Leah Ragusa, who lives in the subdivision, supports the field and says it provides a positive space for children.
She noted that her own children use the facility and described it as welcoming and beneficial for the community.

Despite differing views, residents agree that youth sports are important. However, the disagreement over the lights and zoning has created tension in what was previously a close-knit neighborhood.
